Sans Vuvuzela, GDI.
Let me start out with the fact that I lost my camera at Anime Expo this year so NO PHOTOS OR VIDEOS even though I totally could have had it with me.
Grabbed
zombiequeens (traci) and headed to
badymaru's to carpool with her and her brother and roommate. I think we got to LA at around 3 and while there was already a bit of a line, it wasn't like with Dir en Grey shows. Also, as per usual, PEOPLE WERE CUTTING right up at the front. Cutting in the middle of the line is one thing, but when you're amidst the first 15 people or so, you're just being douches. ANYWAY.
Got in line and we snacked and took bathroom breaks and eeeeeeeeevery now and then Traci just HAD to have a smoke break. This required walking around the venue, damn it. Cruised around and listened to the sound check, where we heard actual vocals being sung instead of the usual "check check check" we hear a lot, which meant that we'd be able to actually HEAR Hizumi singing during the concert. WHAT A CONCEPT. Went around the corner and saw all the equipment boxes. Covered in Dir en Grey stickers. … Hand me downs, me thinks. XD
The venue staff did the line flattening and extending, handed out the drinking tickets and wristbands, made sure we didn't have anything we weren't allowed to have, and in about an hour the doors would open. Late. WHATEVER it wasn't a 90 minute delay like Yoshiki gave us.
The venue is awesome! I love the hexagonal shape of the stage, the acoustics were great, the layout was nice… yada yada. I bought my merch (photoset and Askew magazine) where I found out how the autograph signing was going to work and… Eh. I was dumb and could have done it, but I didn't. Next time.
Met up with the posse that had grown to include 3 more girls from Oregon, and Traci had insisted on being on Zero's side of the stage, which was fine with me. I'd wanted to see how much thicker he'd gotten since the first time I saw them live back in 2004. The curtains were of course down, but there was no railing between us and the stage. If anybody had wanted to they could have plopped their ass down on the stage itself. The downside of this is there isn't a place to set your things down, but sacrifices must be made, damn it!
I chatted with the girls beside me (one was from Japan and visiting for a couple of months) and the other girl, La Maggie, was quite sly with her iPhone camera. She and I both would squat down and look under the curtain and watch set up, which at first made me sad because there was a stack of speakers right in my line of sight for Tsukasa (We were at the far far FAR left of the stage, right by the door the boys would go in and out of).
Opus-dai finally went on and gave their hearts in performing. People weren't OPENLY rude about them but Traci caught sight of eye rollers in the front row. I couldn't hear Tim's vocals for shit but their music was enjoyable. The guitarist, Atsushi, is HUGE and looks like he's playing with a child's guitar it's so small against his frame. XD And their drummer, Jagger, is clumsy. He dropped 3 drumsticks during the performance, two of which rolled in my direction… I snatched the first one off the stage but the second got caught in the bassist's cord and he kicked it out of reach. I got them all to sign the one after the show though :D Almost nobody paid them any mind after the concert, which was sad. :( Traci and I gave Michael the bassist a hug, though.
Down came the curtain and down Maggie and I went to peek under it and watch things. Lo and behold they moved the speaker tower and I had a clear view of Tsukasa's drum kit. Hell to the Yes. We watched as the boys came out and mussed with their instruments a bit, set lists were taped down (18 songs!), and adjustments were made. Soon the curtains went up and the show began. Hizumi was wearing bling bling tennies, Karyu a bling bling tank top, and Zero a bling bling blousey thing with a jacket and Velcro shoes. I didn't notice any bling bling on Tsukasa, but maybe I missed it.
Here's the set list thanks to

I was so far over that watching anybody but Tsukasa was just staring at their backsides, which while fine and dandy, got old after a while. Zero got in our faces a lot, and periodically Hizumi would give us some reaches, but Karyu only came over twice. O_o Poor Traci got shoved from behind and ultimately punched Zero in the leg… WHICH WAS SAD but funny. At some point Zero began twirling around the stage and… backed into Hizumi… who didn't miss a beat… even after Zero bumped right back into him XD That was pretty funny.
Tsukasa did a lot of tongue flicking during the night, but he seemed to do it the most in my direction, possibly because I was constantly watching him and he knew it XD Traci said she'd noticed him look up and around when we both shouted his name, so that made me smile that he heard us. D:
Oh, and NONE OF YOU BITCHES in the front row knows how to head bang properly! I was content to just rock out quietly but I saw the fail and I couldn't let the boys be disappointed, so I ripped out my braid, shook out my hair and showed them how it was DONE. Traci joined in shortly after since I had made a little room for her beside, and we rocked the fuck out. Zero was very appreciative of this as he watched. ^0^\m/
They said their good byes and went off the stage, Hizumi sticking his arm out for us to molest. UNF. One of the girls behind me got around and groped all of their asses as they passed by O_O
The crowd started to settle but the curtain wasn’t down, so Traci and I started chanting, "One more song!" and most of the crowd joined in… except for that one AN KO RE girl, but we managed to drown her out. Soon the roadie came out and taped a second set list down, which had THREE more songs on it, which I quickly read, so the chant then become "Three more songs!"
decomposition tried to get it to "20 more songs!" but no. :b Finally they came out and cheers erupted again as the encore began.
-----ENCORE-----
01 - TRICKSTƏR
02 - Bullet
03 - KAMIKAZE
Zero got close enough that I finally groped his calf like I had the first time; I'd say that it's twice as thick now! I also ran my fingernails down the back of it which he seemed to enjoy X"D
But the set ended and the curtain came down, so we made our way to the lobby where Traci just about grabbed my shirt collar to drag me out to get Opus-dai's autographs since she saw them. They were so sweet despite being bummed out about nobody caring about them. ;/ Badymaru's brother bought a shirt and CD from them, though. Also, the bartender was VERY miffed because nobody tips when they get water and NOBODY GOT ANYTHING BUT WATER. D: Srsly people.
And then while we waited for Bady to get her autograph and Tim to come out and sign the damn drumstick, one of the line squishers (Roxy staff) wanted a picture with me and Traci, "the rockingest chicks at the show" so we were like uh… SURE! XD The only thing I can think of was he either saw us head banging or he liked that we were getting Opus-dai's autographs, but whatever he was cute 8D And he liked messing with us as we went in and out of the venue to look for Tim.
I LOVE THE ROXY AND I LOVE OPUS-DAY AND I LOVE H'AIRSPRAY!
In my top 5 concerts, easy.
