Yes, but generally the wood is painted over with either white or black and then glossed over for that spifferoony sheen they have. :D Now which is it, White or Black?

The piano is black with white keys and gold detailing on the edges, of course. With classical, clawed feet.

Typically, yes, but there are white variations. I'm asking which it should be. Hence, no "right" answer. ^_^ It's for a drawing.

Typical pianos nowadays are made of black plastic and sold in malls. The piano I was suggesting for your piece was black with gold detailing, because I thought it would look lovely. I didn't miss the point of the question.

Yeah, me, too, but I saw a white piano and it made me think; there's gonna be a lot of black in this picture... The one lying on the thing is head-to-toe black, save for her hair and the armband and her face. But then with his white jacket against a white piano it wouldn't look that great, either.
I figure it'll be easier to figure out once I draw the damn thing, fill in the flats, and then we can all decide with a coin. XD
That said, I also thought about the keys. Should they be the traditional white with black, or black with white?

hmm... i'm going to be not so helpfull and say black with a red gloss. ^_^ just because it would bring out the red sleev-cuff thingys a bit and you'd also get to see the diff between the player and the lounger. ^_^

I like the idea actually. When it gets going I'll flirt with it a bit. Right now I'm gonna have the guy on the right with the armband, if that made a difference in your thought. But yeah, I never thought to give it an undercolor. I'm usually so attentive to that type of crap, too, at least with cloth. ^_^

Heh, that's not a drawing style, it's a Conceptual style. ^_^ I use it just to get the idea of the drawing down somewhere, but apparently even my scribbles are attractive to people, as you're not the only one to like these ^^;;;

Yeah, my Mom liked the white with trad. keys and a white BG, too. I'm inclined to go with that, if only for the sake of the black ink cartridge. *cringe*
