Anime Los Angeles 2008

It's about time that I updated with this. D:
K, so after getting back from my sister's on New Year's Day sinceChazzle those that shall not be named moved our signage/bag stuffing day to the first, Ari and I high-tailed it to Granola Hills at like... 6 pm since traffic was just PEACHY between Arizona and California. But we got there and helped Evan get the signs put together and whatnot.
Did whatever on Wednesday.
THURSDAY I pack like a madman since I do that, but checklist are my friendizzle. And came to find out that Ari deleted the Artists' Alley survey, so there was no such copy for me to make copies OF. So I will make that for the mailing list later. LAAAAAAME. Wetf.
She and her sister arrive, we stow everything into the Highlander and go off to ALA.
Check in, eat, grocery shop. Decide, at 6pm or so, that we should go help set up for the convention! So we do that. And we chase down a half dozen or so ribbons while doing that. That's always fun. Our collections grow every year, and this year Patty helped us. XD
Around midnight or 1 we go up to our room and rest up since we have to be downstairs by 8am.
FridayWake up at 7ish. I think I ate. Can't remember. Got dressed and mildly groomed and stumbled down to Artists' Alley. Saw David and gave him his badge. Had artists slowly start to trickle in and check in. Some almost didn't show up at all. Chaz told us to set aside 3 tables' worth of spaces for the fan tables. Nowhere had he ever said that he wanted them TOGETHER. So near the end of the con day, once nearly all the spaces were claimed, we came to find that they do need to be put together. So SPOOn had the fun job of telling absolutely everyone there that on Saturday, they'd be moved to a different space. And SPOOn also had the fun job of figuring out where these spaces were. That was fun. Had one artist that I didn't want to make anyone sit by, but he needed a power outlet that worked. That was limiting. Had 2 groups of 4 that wanted to remain together, which ultimately wasn't so hard to do since there was a group of 4 tables right by the Dealer's Hall exit. Blah blah blah, everyone was pretty happy with their spaces, and the jackass got to sit next to the constantly opening door facing the wind tunnel. I was pleased, and heard no complaints. But that didn't happen until Saturday. At some hour around noon I went upstairs and put Isshi on, and this girl dressed as Miyavi came by and we chatted it up about Jrock and yaoi. XD Ari got to pass out the I <3 Yaoi ribbon, and that seemed to be one of the most coveted ribbons of the entire con. For the staff, there were other, more sought after ribbons, but the staff are greatly outnumbered by the attendees, as any good con should be. But the Miyavi girl was sweet. ^^ We took a Ruka xIsshi xMiyavi picture. XD
sanji_cat came by and gave me my Christmas present, which was just so cool! A color photobook of WWII German soldiers. Oooh yeah. Much love for her.
We packed up around 7 or so to get ready for the rum party, and unfortunately we had to attend a friend's concert at 11, which meant that we had to cut out early on the rum party. The show was good, though. I just felt bad for ditching the crew. I was exhausted though, so we told the crew that we were going to call it a night. But then we walked by the dance room and they were playing good music and I got such a quick burst of energy and nearly ran in... and Ari dragged me back out. For good reason, but... ,_, I wanted to listen to good music! We were absolutely bombarded by crappy Euro Beat and Anime trash all freaking day! I wanted INDUSTRIAL!!! But we went to bed. XP
Saturday we trudged down there at like... 9. Told everyone where their new seats were. No complaints, most everyone was pleased. Thank God. =_= round 10 am, there was a Dollfie/Ball jointed Doll gathering right by Artists' Alley, and which doll do I happen to see? The only one with facial hair, a muscular body, and veins on his hands. He was so beautiful! He was from Iple House, and while I can't recall which model he was, I think I'm in love with their line. *_* Dollshe's aren't bad, either, but their bodies are just so grotesque... I want a Dollshe head with an Iple House body.
At about 3 I went to see the Black Crystals play (another buddy's band; they were cool), and came back around 4:30, which was when
flaming_loffel and Uki came to the con. They left early because she wasn't feeling well though. :(
Saturday I wasn't having much of a good day, and I don't know why. I can't even remember if it was just because of Ari's sister, or what. I just had a crappy day. So Ari and her sister went to the Masquerade, which I still don't care for in the slightest, and I went to dinner with David and Claire. Then we hung out in their room for a while. Claire massaged my arms and then played the banjo. I think it was like... 11 before I left. Ari and I went to bring David some food, and then I snuck into the dance for a couple songs (it was a techno/hip hop war night, and I managed to walk in right as they were playing "Sandstorm." Sweet.) After that, we went back out and saw
sanji_cat and SUSAN. Ari went up ahead of me, and Sanji and I followed SUSAN so that he could make me a Baby Jesus. On the way up to his room, we ran into some guy that knew SUSAN and asked him to make a Baby Jesus for the room. We follow.
There is a congregation of like... 20 Asians and three white people in this tiny hotel room at midnight, nearly all some level of drunk, and thus loud. SUSAN gives me the last Baby Jesus (So sweet of him <3), and Sanji Cat sees
sodaaffinity. We catch up a little bit, he's drunk, and I'm pretty concerned that the room is going to get in trouble because of the constant noise issue. So, Sanji's not having fun, and I like SodaAffinity (Dan) and don't want him to get in trouble, so I dragged his ass out of the room and over to mine. Thanked SUSAN for the drink and bid him goodnight.
So we all hung out in the room, Dan was crashing on the floor by the AC, and then I got a call from
hazelchaz that Athena needed me to come get her. So we did and brought her upstairs where she proceeded to rant about how her male roommates were a bunch of pricks, so we let her stay the night with us. Poor thing. :( She woke up about an hour before us and left the room, which made us worry, but I found her later and she told me that she just went to get her stuff since David's snoring woke her up. XD
Sunday was better, though slightly stressful due to checking out and packing up. We had to leave by 4. XP Then what... Packed up around noon, checked out at 1, said good bye to everyone for the weekend. Packed up the table and left. It was pouring by the time we got home, which made unloading fun. *grumbles*
A great con, all in all, as it tends to be. Things will go more smoothly this year meetings-wise, hopefully. Enjoy!

Date: 2008-01-16 05:03 pm (UTC)our con is in march and none of my costumes are done. lol i has three... possibly 4 >_< and i still has a lot to do before the BLOOD concert >_< i fail. lol
*hugs* ♥
Oops
Date: 2008-01-17 01:35 am (UTC)You're absolutely right. I'm sorry about that.
Next year we're not going to be mixing the Artists' Alley and the convention fan tables, so we can avoid this kind of confusion. The room with Artists' Alley will just have Artists' Alley tables.
Ari got to pass out the I <3 Yaoi ribbon, and that seemed to be one of the most coveted ribbons of the entire con.
Did she run out? Does she have any left over? I still haven't found the "Deutschland" ribbons...
Things will go more smoothly this year meetings-wise, hopefully.
That is my hope as well. There will be a mix of regular meetings, division meetings, and exec (Division Heads) meetings. I want to make it so that most of the department heads won't have to give their own reports at so many meetings, because that's a lot of what makes them drag on so. And as for the rescheduled bag-stuffing meeting... I want to deal with that, too.
Re: Oops
Date: 2008-01-17 01:49 am (UTC)Secondly, I am aware that things can get out of hand and beyond your control, so don't think that I am angry with you for any mishaps that happened. I certainly don't blame you for the traffic that I ran into on New Year's, either. ^^V
Ari did run out of Yaoi ribbons on the last day, early in the morning. We had at least 2 dozen people asking for them afterward, as well. We had fun with those, though. ^^
Re: Oops
Date: 2008-01-17 02:34 am (UTC)There are things that I have control over, and other things I don't. Traffic is certainly not in my jurisdiction. Next year on New Year's Day we'll be setting up at the con...
Ribbons, I think I had more if you guys came looking for them. Was there a "More ribbons are available" sticker on the box?
